Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy

What Is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga Therapy uses the ancient science of yoga to support healing at every level—physical, emotional, and spiritual. It’s designed for individuals or groups navigating health challenges, life transitions, or simply seeking deeper balance and vitality. By placing equal emphasis on movement, breath, and mindfulness, clients begin to feel more connected on the mat and more grounded in their everyday life.

In Yoga Therapy, clients are invited to meet themselves exactly where they are. Not who they were yesterday, not who they hope to be tomorrow—but who they are right now. Whether facing a diagnosis like cancer, living with anxiety or depression, or managing chronic fatigue, the practice reminds us that we are not defined by our symptoms. We are whole, even in the midst of healing. Yoga Therapy is not a replacement for modern medicine. It’s a complementary approach that enhances the healing process by reconnecting body, mind, and spirit.

How Ayurveda Complements Yoga Therapy

Ayurveda is yoga’s sister science. It’s a holistic system of medicine that honors the rhythms of nature and the unique constitution of each person. When woven into Yoga Therapy, Ayurveda adds a layer of depth and personalization that helps clients understand not just what they’re experiencing, but why. Biz integrates Ayurvedic principles into her sessions by exploring:
  • Dosha balance (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) and how it affects energy, mood, and digestion. The doshas are the sacred energies that dance within us, shaping our physical form, emotional tendencies, and spiritual flow.
      • Vata is the wind and ether: movement, creativity, and breath. When balanced, it brings inspiration and lightness. When out of harmony, it may stir anxiety or restlessness.
     • Pitta is the fire and water: transformation, digestion, and passion. In balance, it fuels clarity and courage. In excess, it can burn with anger or inflammation.
     • Kapha is the earth and water: stability, compassion, and nourishment. Balanced Kapha grounds us in love and endurance. Imbalanced, it may feel heavy, sluggish, or resistant to change.
  • Seasonal shifts and how they influence the body and nervous system
  • Daily routines that support sleep, immunity, and emotional regulation
  • Food and lifestyle choices that align with your constitution and healing goals
Together, Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda offer a full-spectrum approach to healing. Movement becomes medicine. Breath becomes balance. And daily choices become tools for transformation.

Take a Class

This seasonal 90-minute workshop will include a brief introduction to Ayurveda and the associated season/dosha(s). Each individual will have the opportunity to take a dosha quiz in advance of the workshop (both Prakruti (constitution) & Vikruti (current imbalance)) so they can attend with an understanding of their current imbalances. After our brief lecture, students can enjoy a mindful yoga practice (asana, breath, mudra), as well as some variety of meditation that supports the current season and its elements. Meditation techniques may include yoga nidra, guided imagery, loving-kindness, mudra & visualization, breath-work or good old- fashioned stillness.
